Welcome to the Affect Rescripting Therapy (A.R.T.) program.

I am Robert Kayton, Ph.D. clinical psychologist, who developed this program during my 36 years of clinical practice.

In my early days as a psychotherapist, I focused on insight-oriented therapy. After several years, it became apparent that although patients gained a greater understanding of their problems, their problems often remained unresolved. I soon realized that just having better knowledge did not necessarily lead to success. I then began to search for treatment methods that were practical, problem-focused, and demonstrated by clinical research to result in successful outcomes. What emerged was a combination of stress management, to reduce disturbing emotions, cognitive therapy, to modify negative and disturbing thoughts, and behavioral therapy, to change self-defeating behaviors.

A.R.T. not only uses the many tools and techniques from these well respected treatment methods, but does so in a strategic, integrated and comprehensive way. In addition to relying on the many advances from these psychological studies, we also include the advances made in the neuroscience field that demonstrate the link between the brain, body, and mind.

 Affect ReScripting Therapy (A.R.T.)

Affects are the inborn emotions that shape and determine the Scripts that characterize our recurring personality patterns.
Whether it be our feelings, thoughts and behaviors, our body and mind, our internal and external world, or our past, present and future, all facets of our lives are interrelated through affects and scripts. A.R.T.'s goal is to help regulate affects and "re-script" negative and dysfunctional scripts. Affect ReScripting Therapy fulfills this goal in several ways. The techniques are individually tailored to treat each person and each problem as unique and special.

The overall approach is flexible yet planned, comprehensive yet problem focused, innovative yet sound.
The method systematically combines a variety of techniques to maximize effectiveness and efficiency.
The treatment uses only those techniques that the research and clinical studies have demonstrated to produce the best results.
